The most successful
marketers use a combined
approach to achieve their
marketing goals. They mix
advertising, tradeshows,
consumer shows, publicity,
direct mail, email and
Website marketing to get
their message out on a
consistent basis. And, they
keep their message
consistent. While the look
and delivery method may
change, the message is
always consistently clear.
Direct Mail Usage
Increasing
A recent announcement by
the Direct Marketing
Association, the trade
group representing large
direct-marketing companies
noted that 45% of their

members plan to spend
more on direct mail this
year. This is due to
increased dissatisfaction
with direct outbound calls
to consumers. If you are
using direct mail, make
sure it has great initial
visual impact to get through
the increased clutter.
Email Marketing
Rebounds
While email marketing by
some companies has
declined; there has been an
upturn in interest from
consumers, who while still
weary and leery of SPAM,
are finding useful
marketing messages in their
Inbox. Perhaps because so
much SPAM is filtered
these days, consumers take
more time review a
valuable email messages.
Make sure you comply
SPAM laws in your email
broadcasts by having an
opt-out line in your
message. You also need to
display your mailing
address in the message. It’s
a good idea to ask your
recipients to add your email
address to their Contact or
Address Book to make
certain their email filters do
not block it.
You should make every
effort to collect email
addresses from your
customers and potential
customers. Email is an
increasingly important
component of your
marketing mix.
Hi Barney,
I bumped into you via the
Artist's Printshop BBS, and
wanted to pass this along,
since it was covered in your
July Art Print Issues.

Building a new site, I was
struggling, trying to come
up with a choice of colors to
use, and ran across
something that rocked my
socks off.
upload an image, and it'll
generate a color palette
from it, which can then be
used to create a Cascading
Style Sheet using the colors
from the image.

I
put together a small gallery
of some of the images I used
as headers for my website,
om/ and it has both the image
used, and the colors it came
back with.

Once I get the time, I'm
going to monkey around with
creating a CSS to match each
header image, which rotates
to another header image with
each page load. (Eventually,
the header images will be
sampled from prints offered
for sale, currently, they're
samples of some of my
artwork yet to be rendered
large enough for prints)
Since color was
mentioned in this first
issue, I thought others
might enjoy trying this
out. I've uploaded digital
photos I've taken of the
flower garden, some
photos of the forests and
streams around here, and
it seems no matter what
you put in there, it all
comes out looking mighty
nice together. I'm looking
forward to future issues of
Art Print Issues; I can see
this will be a good source
of information.
